Suren, the boy who captured our hearts

We promised to share the stories of our encounters with children. One of our heroes has become Suren, a boy who has won over our hearts.

We met him in one of the border villages of Armenia – Koti, during our “Become a Santa” project. Like everyone else, he wrote a letter to Santa and wished for… not stationary, not a toy car, but a dhol (a traditional Armenian musical instrument)!

Each gift passes through us, but when children ask for something related to art, it remains particularly memorable. There’s a special, sacred meaning in this. Regardless of their circumstances, the spark of talent, the spark of a great heritage, never fades in children.

Suren happily played the dhol for us, once again proving that there are no limits to a child’s creativity. And if any limits do appear, we will erase them. Apart from his artistic pursuits, Suren already has plans and aspirations for the future – he intends to become a doctor! He excels in biology and chemistry.

For his age, the boy clearly understands the value of his homeland and his love for it. He respects the country’s history and its national heroes. Beyond his stories, we felt this when we stood on the street and military vehicles carrying our soldiers began to pass by – at that moment, Suren stood up straight with a special pride, saluting. Then he waved toward the passing vehicles, wishing them a “Safe journey.”

But our acquaintance didn’t end there – Suren also proved to be bold and open about his feelings! He shared with us that he experiences special emotions for a particular girl. Our volunteers couldn’t remain indifferent, and already the next day, thanks to them, Suren presented a bouquet to his chosen one and even shared a photo with us.

This boy stands out with his bravery, wisdom, mindfulness, and kind heart! He has taught us a lot, and in turn, we will continue to maintain a connection with him and follow his incredible story.
