The Journey of Kamila Hovhannisyan Toward a Bright Future

Kamila Hovhannisyan is an energetic and talented 8-year-old girl who loves singing and playing football. She knows all the famous football players in the world and dreams of pursuing her passion without limitations. However, a significant obstacle stands in the way of her dream—achondroplasia, a genetic condition that slows bone growth.

Achondroplasia affects a protein in her body, leading to slowed bone growth in the cartilage growth plates. This results in shortened arms and legs, which not only limits her physical abilities but also impacts her psychological well-being. Despite the love and support of her classmates, the stares of strangers make Kamila feel self-conscious. Nevertheless, Kamila dreams of having longer arms and legs to lead a full life, gain confidence, and improve her quality of life.

A turning point in her life came when Kamila’s condition required a complex surgical procedure. She needed treatment at the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology, where Ilizarov devices would be used to lengthen her bones. This surgery was crucial not only for her physical mobility but also for her mental health and future opportunities.

Faced with financial challenges, Kamila’s family reached out to the “Hurry for Good” foundation for assistance. Together with the IMAST platform, the foundation launched a fundraising campaign for the surgery and associated treatments. The incredible response from donors enabled the necessary funds to be raised quickly, allowing Kamila to undergo the vital operation without delays.

Thanks to donor support and the professionalism of the medical team, Kamila’s surgery became a significant step toward improving her life. Ilizarov devices were successfully applied to both arms, opening new possibilities for her mobility and functionality.
Despite complications with her left arm, including temporary immobility and the need for a second surgery due to radial nerve damage, Kamila remains hopeful and determined to achieve positive outcomes. The surgery has already begun to transform Kamila’s life, bringing her closer to her dreams of playing football and becoming a doctor to help others.
